In reply to nardil fainting wellbutrin, posted by shrimp on June 10, 2003, at 12:37:13
I've had the same response! I posted about this before, but no one replied. This happens to me every time I take a amphetamine to curb the fatigue I get from Nardil. My guess is that the amphetamine causes such a spike in my blood pressure that when the effects wear off my blood pressure take a steep drop. It was so bad for me though that I actually did faint a few times.
What you are describing sounds like orthrostatic hypotension. It basically means that when you are lying down your blood pressure is fine but when you stand your body tries to compensate for the drop which causes all those weird reactions (dizziness, white spots, pressure behind the eyes, etc...)
Fortunately yours wasn't so bad that you fainted everytime you got up for a whole 24 hours like me after use of an amphetamine.
This makes sense though because I've been on Wellbutrin (alone) and it's known to be a stimulating anti-depressant. I think this may all be related to fluctuating dopamine levels...though I can't say for sure, just a wild hunch, really.
I say you try and discontinue the Wellbutrin. Nardil is a MUCH, MUCH, MUCH (can I say it enough??) better anti-depressant by far. It has it's side-effects which most go away with time, so be patient.
On a side note - It says on the instructions handed out with Nardil not to stand up quickly. What I do is when getting out of a laying position lay my legs stretched out over the an edge for a bit, then raise my upper torso slowly while slowly coming to a complete upright position. Getting up from sitting for a while is also a little problematic so you may want to be carefull there too.
Best wishes!
