No, you're not alone. Benzos have a negative effect on affect in some people. It's not common, especially for Xanax, which is known to be (on average) a mild antidepressants, but it does happen. What you describe is more often found with Klonopin. Klonopin seems to be marginally a mood depressant for me, whereas Xanax is definitely antidepressant.

You might ask your doctor if you could try another benzo, valium perhaps.
