Meridia (sibutramine) for Depression and OCD?

Posted by fairnymph on March 12, 2003, at 19:15:34

Has sibutramine (typically marketed for weight loss) ever been used to treat psychiatric disorders?

I have had good results with prozac and moderate ones with Effexor but I couldn't tolerate the sexual side effects (anorgasmia). Also, I gained a few pounds on prozac, which is not good seeing as I have OCD issues concerning my body image.

Meridia inhibits the reuptake of serotonin and norepineprhine (and possibly dopamine as well?)...sounds alot like an antidepressant to me!

Plus, it seems (from what I can find online) that sexual side effects are much less and obviously weight gain is not an issue.

Thoughts?
