In reply to Oversedation from Zyprexa, will Cytomel help?, posted by wingedcat on February 28, 2003, at 0:46:44
Zyprexa sedation is usually most significant in the first week or so. It will likely subside.
I think you are doing the right thing by considering 2.5mg. Just cut the pill. The halves don't have to be exact.
I take Zyprexa and I'm one of those who believes it is a supermed. I started at 2.5mg for about a month, it seemed to wear off, so I went to 5.0mg and that's where I have stayed.
Starting at 5.0mg I think is a mistake. Another mistake is to take the dose at bedtime. A better way is to take it around 5:00 to 6:00 pm. This way the sedation is not as bad the next morning. If you take it at bedtime, that is too late, and too much of the sedation will still linger the next morning.
In any case, the sedation should subside rather quickly. Lowering the dose and taking it earlier in the day should help a lot.
