Subclinical Hypothyroidism / T3 for depression?

Posted by wingedcat on February 7, 2003, at 15:13:55

I'm 22 and female, and I have a family history of hypothyroidism. My psychologist said that my depression, anxiety, and attention problems could be from my thyroid beginning to fail. I got it tested, my T3 and T4 are on the low end of normal and my TSH is on the high end of normal.

I take low-dose Deprenyl and DLPA and it has helped in that I'm no longer suicidal and I am more alert. My anxiety is still bad, though.

I see my primary doctor on Tuesday and I'm very nervous. They have sent me away before (after charging me money) with "We don't treat depression here." I'm afraid they're not going to help me. I can't stand being referred all over the place and given the run around again.

Do any of you have experiences with thyroid hormones? Have you tried using Cytomel (T3) or Thyrolar (T4+T3)? My mom's anxiety completely disappeared after she added T3 to the T4 she was taking for hypothyroidism. Thank you for any responses.
