My story:
I also take stim as augmentor to ADs, also for low energy from depression, and some add-like symptoms of depression.
Started on generic methylphenidate two and a half doses a day ( I think of 5 mg--can't remember!). It helped, but lots of rebound, like you are experiencing.
Then, switched to ritalin sr--slightly better--effect lasted about 3.5 hours instead of 2.5 but still lots of rebound--spacy, anxious when due for next dose, and let down at end of day.
Then, on to adderall 2.5 x 10 mg. This was much better--I noticed right away that I felt calmer and more focused than before, and it lasted longer than the ritalin sr (4-5 hours), so less rebound. Bt still some rebound--around mid-day before I dosed, I felt kind of spacy and anxious. I stayed on this for about 1.5 years, with one increase in dose to 3x10 mg/day.
Switched to (and currently still taking) the adderall xr when it came out--30 mg in the morning. Same good effects, but much smoother action--no mid-day rebound, and don't feel the let-down at end of the day. Also, of course, more convenient.
