If only this were true. In the entire history of antidepressants there has never been marketed one antidepressant that is demonstrably more effective than all the others. All drug companies seem to care about is producing new ADs which they can patent and market heavily. Look at lexapro. Thousands of people are being put on it or switched to it even though there is no evidence that it is better in any way than its racemic original, celexa.
I hope this changes in the future. Perhaps a drug company will in fact stumble onto a truly better AD and market that superiority. That would be a great leap forward. I'm not holding my breath, however.
