Remeron kills sex - now it's scientific!

Posted by jimmygold70 on December 21, 2002, at 11:59:28

I had sexual problems with all the SSRIs. I'm bipolar, so sex comes and goes. Since I'm on Lamictal (NO SIDE EFFECTS!) I'm just too stable. Thus, effexor and all kinds of SSRIs killed my sex life. Completely. I've stopped dating women. I have the best college position - many ladies try picking me up, and I'm just apathetic. Injecting Testosterone didn't help either.

Then, I started Remeron. I've been on it for 2 months now, and sex is simply nonexistent... I went up 15->30->45mg, no change!!!

Well, doing some Medline research I've run into a well designed research called "Prevalence of sexual dysfunction among newer antidepressants". I'm a researcher so I can testify that this article (J Clin Psych 63:4 Apr 2002) is very well written and the design is appealing.

Bottom line: All newer ADs are about the same concerning sexual side effects.
Paxil=Remeron=Effexor XR=Zoloft=Celexa=Prozac>Serzone>Wellbutrin SR>Wellbutrin IR

The only drug with considerable variance of sexual side effects is Remeron, so I can believe folks here that it does better for them. On the other hand for many others it does sexual deprivation.

The only reason I'm concerned with my loss of libido is that I can't get into relationships. Women want sex, and I can't give it to them or to myself.

Your opinion?
Jimmy
