> I haven't heard this one. Has anyone experienced increased cognitive ability or energy with topamax? I've heard all the side effect stories of muddled thinking with topamax, and I have experienced that, at times. However, I have had moments of increased energy and quick wittedness that have been unusual in the last two migraine infested, effexor (I'm off that now) years.
Delilah,
I see your post is from March, so this info may no longer be of interest, but I recently added Topamax to Lamictal/Wellbutrin and have experienced improved mental focus. I am at a tiny dose, about 38mg at bedtime (bless my little tablet splitter!), but it seems to take the edge off my anxiety. I have been able to discontinue my sleep meds (Ambien) and daytime benzos (Ativan). Seems like a good trade-off to me.I've been encouraged by John's experience. Without his posts I would not have had the guts to try this stuff. I feel that my cognitive functioning has already suffered from years of ineffective treatment and subsequent progression of my illness (Bipolar II)and have been hesitant to try anything that might make matters worse. So far, Topa has been a pleasant surprise.
