> Supposedly caffeine has a calming effect on people with ADD. In fact one of the ways we discovered I was ADD was that I drank at least six or seven diet Cokes a day (usually more). People with ADD are notorious for self-medicating with caffeine. However, oddly enough, the caffeine in coffee makes me really anxious (can't drink it). For me adderall helps me focus and makes me calmer than caffeine, but I still drink a significant amount of diet Coke even with the Adderall.
>>yeah, me too, I told my p-doc on my first visit that caffiene makes me calm, and then he's like "yeah, ADD" and I was like "what!??! oh, ok, that explains why I never could concentrate for the past 18 years..."
And it seemed more zen-like in Coke than coffee... I always loved O-Ding on Coke. I really do push the limits of the "free refill" policies when I go out to eat. I average about 8 glasses per sitting. And that's only because by the 9nth request the waiter says "he's cutting me off" because he thinks I'm bottling and re-selling it.
I think it's the sugar, too... sugar in inattentive ADD types. At least for me, I love Sour Patch Kids to the point where my tongue is bleeding and I'm still popping them into my mouth. Must. have. sugar.
Speaking of which, someone really does need to invent like a tongue guard so I can happily enjoy excessive amounts of these somehow vegan-compliant sugar candies.
Then again, I'd probably ingest a toxic amount if I didn't have to deal with the tongue bleeding...
