Neurontin can definitely have an effect -- the first two or three times I took it, I experienced a very mellow, relaxed, pleasant high that definitely wasn't a placebo effect. Since then, I've felt nothing. I continue to take 1200 mg/day because my pdoc thinks it may add "background" stability in the context of my other meds, and his intuition is generally very good. He considers it among the mildest of mood stabilizers, but helpful for some people. It has absolutely no side effects for me. I doubt whether it's doing much any more, but it sure did right at the beginning, so I can see how others might get a sustained benefit.
