Is there a non-depressive sedative drug?

Is there a drug sedative which is NOT a depressive and does not undo the work of ADs?
I have a friend who has suffered depression for 9 years and takes huge doses of valium and sleeping tablets along with PAXIL (SEROXAT). I am worried that the SEROXAT won't stand a chance against the sedatives which will be depressing her. If she stops the valium and sleeping tablets what should she take to replace them?
