Dear Zo and fairnymph:
I signed up last week but I am not new to Add and bipolar depression. I am 47 now and have been sober in AA for 25 years. I spent my early youth self medicating with alcohol and other drugs trying to deal with my bipolar depression and ADD. My brother drank himself to death--direct cause of death heart attack- indirect cause of death- alcohol and other drugs-- trying to self medicate his own bipolar depression and add, in 1993.
I share this information because it may help someone else who is suffering out there. For the most part I have had very bad results with psych docs, because they never seem to really hear me and prescribe what they're comfortable with rather than
something they either aren't familiar or "comfortable with".Right now I am seeing medical psych residents because it is the only thing my insurance pays for. I have been on disability for bipolar and Add for 10 years. I believe that I could go back to work as as a professional if I could get my ADD treated.
I currently take 300 mg of Effexor for depression but it completely eliminates any type of sexual response. Any thoughts on that? The docs suggest looking into viagra or other localized medications to improve sexual response. It is frustrating to think that in order to treat your depression I have to forgo a sexual response for the rest of my life
The ritalin works slightly but nothing like the dexedrine. It just makes no sense that these docs prefer one drug to the other when it doesn't work.
Question on Doses: I took 4 X 15 dexedrine spansules, twice daily. I am now taking 5mg of Ritalin twice daily. It doesn't seem like a comparable dose. What are the dosages for dexedrine and adderall?Thank you so much.
