I totally agree... I can't argue with the idea the ssris take 6 weeks to work but raise serotonin on day one.

What's weird to me though, is how close it actually has come, for me, if I oversimplify. Like if I say: I've got almost but not quite enough serotonin, that I have too much norepinephrine, and not enough dopamine -- all the drugs I've taken make sense with regard to their most recognized mechanisms and fall neatly into categories. It is so tempting to believe in the oversimplified version.

One thing that trips me up is how easy it is to find an explanation if I specifically look for it. For example, if I type in search words "empathy" and "serotonin" I will be almost certain to find at least one person that thinks empathy comes solely from serotonin. Or that serotonin is anti-empathy. I'll find something. Seek and yee shall find in pubmed. Even if its not really true. It is very difficult to find out if what you're reading is an accepted theory, a wormy hypothesis, or the lifework of a crackpot, given that in pubmed, everything sounds very scientific.

So -- buyer beware.
