Effexor XR - itching like crazy!

Posted by van west on May 5, 2002, at 17:00:28

I'm on 300 mg Effexor XR per day and while it has been very effective in treating my depression and especially my anxiety, some of its side-effects are getting to me.

When I first moved up to this dosage - about two months ago - I would take the 300 mg at breakfast time. Dragged myself through the morning and gradually became more energetic as the day wore on. Then came the next morning - several times I got rather dizzy while in the shower and realized I hadn't taken the medication yet. Experimented with taking 150 mg with breakfast and the other 150 mg 12 hours later. Big difference - felt much better and more even-tempered when getting up in the mornings.

The usual side effects are there: dry mouth, sweating, loss of libido, constipation. But lately, after every shower I go berserk over the itchy skin I end up with! It feels like hundreds of needles stabbing at me and of course it gets worse when you scratch! The good effects of the medication have definitely helped me back away from the edge I was on - but everytime I shower I seem to be driven closer to another edge (figuratively speaking) -- see, even my sense of humor is coming back :) :).

Anyone else have that extreme itch as a side-effect and have you found any way to alleviate it?
