It depends on the person, in my opinion. If you are medicine sensitive, then when you start the combo, you will know if it benefits you. From personal experience, I am on Effexor XR 225mg and have tried Celexa (started at 10mg then up to 20mg) and "flipped out". I just could not tolerate the combo, but thats me. I did have some success adding Wellbutrin SR 150mg. (for altered libido) but it made be irritable. So, I weighed the benefits with the risks and decided to stay on one med, Effexor XR, I am considering taking my pdocs advise and titrating up to 300-325mg. 325mg is a new therapeutic dose for Effexor. I guess I just do not handle SSRI's very well. Technically speaking Effexor XR is a "bicyclic" and Wellbutrin is kind of in a class of its own. It is a weak reuptake inhibitor of serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine. Effexor is I guess an SNRI. By the way, I am a nursing student in my 3rd year, majoring in psychiatric nursing!! I am currently taking an abnormal psychology course which is AWESOME! The brain is a complicated organ. Anyway...If you have any questions or opinions (good or bad) send them!
Good Luck...by the way...why do you want to add a ssri to your current regiman??????
Hope this helps!! ;)
