> Hi Michelle. That's great that you finally found a medicine combo that works for you! Congratulations on quitting caffeine, too! The only thing I can think of is that you probably are in some kind of withdrawal. It sounds like you stopped "cold turkey." Maybe a slower withdrawal would have been a little easier on you? I think caffeinated sodas have a lot less caffeine than a cup of coffee. If you continue to have problems, maybe you could try a slower taper rather than stopping abruptly and rather than raising the dexedrine. The reason I'm reluctant to suggest raising the dexedrine is that the combo (Effexor + Dex) seems to be working so well for you, so you don't want to develop a tolerance to Dex. I try to keep the stimulant doses as LOW as possible to stave off tolerance. What do you think?
Thanks for your reply! This was my first time posting on this sight and I'm amazed at the kindness of strangers!
I'm reading a lot about switching stimulant medications to stave off tolerance--so I'm glad you mentioned keeping the stimulant doses as low as possible. I do think I quit the caffeine rather abruptly! I was at a Korean health spa having my 1st-time experience of relaxing & "detoxing" my body (relaxing being my primary motive)when I decided--"hey, why not go for it now that my body has sweated out most of the caffeine in my body anyway!" (There were 4 dry saunas, with different herbs, salts, muds, etc. and a very wet steamy sauna, not to mention body scrubs, mineral pools and hot tubs to alternate with freezing pools to shock your pancreas into action! This was all unknown to me!)So I decided I'd be one-up on the whole withdrawl thing. Not! I had the headache of my life the next day--took 4 ibuprophen and took a 3 hour nap. I havn't had any more headaches, Just the no-energy kind of feeling a lot of the day. So maybe my withdrawl is not over...if I just give it a bit more time, I may start feeling some energy again. I hope. Or I wonder if cutting back on the dex for a few days (of misery) may not just help things out in the long run. I see my doctor Tuesday--I'd like to hold out til then. I don't know the dose ranges of dextroamphetamine anyway. (I'm taking 5mg 3x's daily now)
Again, thanks for your input, Bekka (and all who responded! Thanks!)
