Eric,
Hi. I'm so sorry that this has happened to you!! But I'm glad you went to the hospital. Yes, we have to be sooooooo careful with "polypharmacy"/multiple medicines. I am one of the worst patients in the world as far as med combos are concerned. Nearly every combo I've tried gives me lethally high blood pressures, rapid heart rates, muscle stiffness, rigidity, chills. I'm convinced I've had serotonin syndrome several times over the years. The only thing that's saved me is knowing to TRUST myself and my OWN feelings and reactions REGARDLESS of what the genius doctors have told me. Each person is unique in the way he/she responds to medicines. I don't know what race you are, but there is a lot of variability among different races as far as response to medicines. For example, 5-20% of Caucasians have "genetic polymorphisms" for certain liver enzymes that are needed to metabolize many psychotropic drugs. That means that even if they have those enzymes, they might have deficient versions of them. Morever, certain medicines inhibit or suppress the activity of those enzymes, so if you're taking a med that requires one of those enzymes and another med that inhibits those enzymes, the first med won't be properly broken down. It could build up to dangerous levels, and all sorts of nasty things can happen. Anyway, enough about that until you are well. For now, I hope you recover very quickly. Trust yourself and your own feelings! Please let us know how you're doing.
