In reply to Paxil anyone??, posted by Denett on December 1, 2001, at 4:54:00
I've been to this forum quite a few times & read others' experiences & advice. Now I've finally decided to join but I'm not new to psychotropic medications or how they work.
Paxil can be quite the all-purpose AD for some people but I wouldn't recommend it. Why?
Over the last 15 years, I've been on a number of antidepressants, tricyclics, SSRIs & other medications related to migraines & depression. I found Paxil to very effective but if I even forgot to take my Paxil in the morning as I normally did, by night-time I was already feeling the "discontinuation" symptoms. Missing a day would make me sick, sweaty, & have a bad headache. When I went off Paxil, I had to do it so gradually over a three month period & still I felt dizzy & sick for another couple of months afterwards. I'd get what some people call brain freezes - a sudden rush sweeping up into my brain, like it had been electrified but not my body. I felt so horrible I would gladly have been dead even though I'm not, & wasn't then, the slightest bit suicidal.
My case was quite extreme but in talking to a very knowledgable pharmacist, he said those symptoms are more intense with Paxil than any of the other SSRIs. He said he'd read of brain wave changes during the dry-up period even. I'd try anything else before I'd chose Paxil again.
