SSRI + T3 (cytomel) to counter weight gain?

Posted by dannyboy on December 2, 2001, at 0:26:13

Hey everybody-

I posted a couple of weeks ago asking for advice of treatment of panic disorder. I requested benzo therapy, and was given Klonopin & Xanax IF I agreed to give Zoloft a try. I now take .5 mg klonopin and 100 mg. Zoloft/ day. I am definitely feeling the effects of the Zoloft - I feel like I did on Paxil...just wonderful. However, I feel that weight gain is imminent and I'd like to head this off at the pass before it gets out of control, as it did on Paxil.

I've read promising things about T3 (cytomel) and its ability to promote weight loss. It also seems that it can be safely added to an SSRI with no adverse effects. I know that my pdoc will not experiment with me on this; I'm going to ask for a prescription from a doc friend of mine or perhaps head on down to Mexico to pick some up. So I'm on my own.

I'm wondering if any of you have had experience with an SSRI + T3 combo and if you noticed weight loss (or at least weight control) with the combo. It looks to good to be true!

Thanks all,

Daniel
