Hey everyone,
I'm taking medication for ADD (inattentive, non hyper), and am trying to work out proper dosing... I started out on dexedrine, tried ritalin briefly, then adderall, and now back to dexedrine tablets and dexedrine spansules. Currently prescribed 10mg tabs and 15mg spansules in the AM, followed by another 10mg in tablets later in the afternoon.
The problem is, it seems very hit or miss as to its effects, and even whether or not it even works that day. I"ve tried going up and down by 5mg steps (the tablets) to see how that changes things, and again I'm frustrated by an apparent lack of correlation.
Sometimes 5mg seems enough in the AM, sometimes not....I've taken up to 15mg in the AM, which seems marginally better but it's hard to tell. The spansule does seem to help as it smoothens out any afternoon poop-out I've had in the past.
I guess my question is, for those of you taking dex (or other meds for ADD), how did you know when you hit on that magic dosing? What dosages are you taking? My pdoc says that it's often a very narrow window of effective dosing for everyone, hence all the fine tuning that goes on.
The times I think it's working, it really calms down my thinking, I don't jump around from task to task (and thought to thought) nearly as much, it "settles" me... Other times it makes me feel lock-jawed, or tight.... And I find conversation very difficult at times also (as in I can't give more than one-sentence answers). Or it leaves me feeling really exhausted at some point in the day.
Would appreciate any advice or experiences others have had.....Thanks in advance.
