LRC - I do believe that a lot of people who talk about having problems with Effexor were using the regular version. There is quite a bit of problems with the XR version, too. This mostly happens when one is not titrated off of the drug properly, or in those who have not had the withdrawl problems dealt with properly (eg. people who have had proper weaning and still can't come off a low dose, should have tried to taper again using Prozac - sometimes a month or two or Prozac use is needed).
I do believe that people who do have problems with getting off of the Effexor (or XR), even after weaning, may be "fast metabolizers". Many, many people do not have a problem with stopping Effexor or Effexor XR cold turkey, even from relatively high doses. It is just that we do not have those people searching the internet and posting non-problems on bulletin boards. Several on this board have said they have had no problem stopping Effexor cold turkey (personally, I would not want to risk a cold turkey stoppage, though).
