I started out with some weird dreams on effexor. I was told that the dreams lasted about 3-4 weeks. I was having such bad sleep disturbances, I talked to my psych. He prescribed an AD that has been around for about 30 years, and is really safe, and a side effect is that it really helps REM sleep. It sort of helps with the architecture of sleep, so to say. I can take it every 2-3 days. It is called Trazadone. It is also very cheap. I take it at night, and I get very solid nights sleep. The stuff is incredible. I will sleep so hard, that I don't remember a thing the next day. It might make you harder to wake up, which might not be good with young children, but I am not sure. I haven't had anyone trying to wake me up in the middle of the night. It is also non-habit forming. The first couple times you take it, you may be drowsy, but after awhile, you just feel like you fall asleep normally.

Good luck.
