I am an attorney diagnosed with BP II, rapid cycling. I am not presently practicing, altho I keep my license active and in good standing. Carolyn, if you don't mind my asking, what kind of law do you practice, are you a litigation attorney? Do you work full time?
Topomax is the mainstay of my treatment. I am presently on 175mg. It does not interfere with my cognition or verbal abilities. I will be going back for my LLM this fall on a part time basis with hopes of teaching; I am both excited/worried about this transition...my pdoc has said to start increasing my dose of topomax by 25mg every 4 to 7 days to a dose I can tolerate. I am supplementing this with Neurotin at night 100 mg to help me sleep...doesn't always help...that's when I will take an ativan. I previously combined my topomax with various combos of Prozac and Zoloft, which seemed ok at first...but really dulled my mind and although I was exceedingly pleasant I was not motivated to care about anything. I SIMPLY DID NOT CARE. Very different from depression where you are too depressed too care. So now I 'm off that and just working with higher doses of Topomax and low dose of Neurotin and ativan as needed.
