I took Remeron for more than 2 years. It knocked me out at first, but that wore off. It always helped me sleep, though. If you feel tired or hungover in the morning (as though you have cobwebs in your head but without the headache), some caffeine can remedy that. It is a common side effect.
I would suggest sticking with it. It can take 4-6 weeks before you'll feel it's working. If the tiredness is interfering with your work, you could change the time that you take it. Some people take it in the daytime instead. Or you could take it earlier in the evening or late afternoon to see if that helps the sleep and the daytime fatigue.
Another idea would be to change the dose. I began on 15mg and wasn't upped to 30 for a few weeks, as I recall. My doctor always starts me on the lowest dose of something to see how I react, then increases slowly. You could split the 30mg pills and take half. Or maybe it would help to take half in the evening and half at another time of the day (morning? afternoon?)
I have read where a lower dose will make people more tired than a higher dose. If this is true with you, you might consider upping the dose to 45mg. However, I found 45mg to be overpowering and had to be at home when I took it because it made me wobbly, unsteady on my feet, and I had to go to bed within the hour.
Ask your doctor to see what he/she suggests.
There also is an egroups site on Remeron. You'll find it by going to the Psycho-Babble Tips section hypertext at the top of this page. Good luck.
