> Does anyone have experience with combining SSRI's or other AD with non-prescription AD's such as SAMe or 5HTP? I've been through most of the AD's and either they've stopped working or cause GI side effects that are prohibitive for me (I have severe Irritable Bowel Syndrome). Any help appreciated deeply.

I, too, have severe IBS but the medicines I take keep the IBS down-I take Paxil, Effexor XR and Seroquel. I don't know which one helps it but I think it's the paxil and seroquel. I've tried St. John's Wort tea and Kava Kava and Metabolite as over the counter drugs and was not badly effected but the first 2 made me groggy and the Metabolite made me a bit nervous. There are specific medicines for IBS-smooth muscle relaxers I believe they are called. They work very well but made me on the tired side-I tend to get that side effect easily because of my physiology. Have you tried them? Also have you tried changing your diet to nonspicey, nonlactose and nongreasy foods? That seemed to help me when the IBS was flaring up. But like I said, the psychotropic drugs I take now seem to prevent it from rearing it's ugly head! Sometimes I'll still get an attack and as soon as I feel it coming on I take 3 tylenol extra strength and, excuse me for saying this, an enema! It works wonders. I've heard heating pads can help, too. Hope this helps. I got tired of going to the emergency room for it.
