Depakote, drowsiness.

Posted by jktaddi on November 26, 2000, at 22:33:35

Earlier this year, I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. For the last 10 months, I have tried at least 6 different medications to no avail (Lithium was the first). I appartantly don't tolerate medications very well and have severe side effects. Depakote, thus far, has proven to be the most helpful. The only side effect I am experiencing is drowsiness. Sometimes mild, sometimes not. Is there something I can do or take to counter-act this effect? I'm not ready to give it up, yet I have 2 small children and need to be alert (I'm now drinking almost 2 pots of coffee a day to keep awake). Please help!? Thank you!
