Too much of a med? How do you know?

How do you know if you've stepped up the dose of a given med too much? How do you know if you're taking a little too much? Does anyone know the symptoms of excessive Seratonin, Norepinephrine, or Dopamine (Or where I could read about this)? I think usually the symptoms for excess are similar to those of deficiency, but I'm not sure.
