hi dj. i haven't read the book, but i did read your post. and i have a few comments...
first it seems that both you and the therapist who wrote the review do not like this anti-depressant phase 'we americans' are in right now. part of me understands that... that only a positive creative attitude is what people want to deal with... everything else is getting phased out. BUT... and that's a big but... there are alot of people that i believe have just plain 'bad chemistry'. (what a judgement huh?) take my father for instance. 'golden boy' from a small town. gets to the big city (california) and realizes he really isn't much in comparison to all that money and all those fast cars. soon starts to self-medicate with the booze. ends up dying in prison. that is a much more common story than alot of people would like to believe. and when i think what anti-depressants would have done for his 'natural personality', maybe he would have had a chance. anyways, had to put my two cents worth in. i do think that people are pushing to be the best that they can be. and maybe that means not being depressed right now... after generations and generations of people who could do nothing about themselves. perhaps this too shall balance out and we will have a planet full of people who are much closer to leading fulfilling lives than they are now.
anyways, take care. yo
