I have a friend who is fortunate to have one stop mental shopping. He has a psychiatrist associated with a California university who is his therapist, psychologist, psychopharmacologist, and psychiatrist -- all neatly packaged into one person. He sees his pdoc twice a month for almost an hour each visit, and his pdoc also prescribes his meds. Best of all, his pdoc is surprisingly inexpensive, even for CA. My friend explains that it's easier to bond with one person, as opposed to having one person for drug management and another for talk therapy, which certainly makes sense to me. My friend thinks I should be able to find that here in Florida, but it's not so easy. My pdoc is basically a psychopharmacologist ... if I need someone to talk to, I have to go elsewhere. In the meantime, I'm paying my pdoc to prescribe a benzo (and he gets annoyed if I even mention wanting to try another med), and I'm looking for someone for therapy, but my friend says I should be able to find a pdoc who does both. In the Tampa, Florida area, I've yet to find such a person -- at least not one that I can afford. Of course, I haven't checked with USF yet. Any thoughts, suggestions, or recommendations?
