Jenna - Any antidepressant can cause weight gain. It may not be a side effect of the antidepressant, but a sign that your depressive symptoms are resolving. Many people with major depressive disorder do not feel like eating and must force themselves. Once the depression begins to resolve it becomes easier to force yourself to eat, hence the weight gain. Sometimes its seems that antidepressants can directly cause weight gain, but the mechanism is poorly understood (may have to do with leptin or other hormonal levels). It's the same old story; eat a good diet, with few junk or fast foods; snack on veggies; and exercise regularily (join a group if motivation is a problem). Hope this helps - Cam W.
