> PJPJ - Five days of Xanax doesn't need tapering, usually that is done if you have taken the drug for 7 or mores, multiple doses per day. Taking Xanax as needed (prn) is also an acceptible way to take the med, without requiring a taper. Kava kava is also a relatively safe drug when taken alone. Chronic ingestion (>3 months) can lead to dry, flaky skin, reddened eyes, puffy face and muscle weakness. Overdose may produce paralysis od the respiratory center. Concurrent alcohol consumption increases the toxicity of Kava kava. You should not take a dose of over 250mg of kavalactones (the active ingredient) per day. Hope this helps - Cam W.
