> My question: Can I start Serzone without tapering off of Celexa. My doctor said this would be alright, but evertyhing on these message boards contradicts this. Need answer quickly don't know what to do! Thanks Gloria
I have heard of three different ways to do this. There aren't many drug-drug interactions with Celexa, so the two drugs mixed shouldn't be a problem. I don't know which way you would be more comfortable, but this is how I've heard it's done:
1. Start Serzone at 50mg, work up to 100mg, and then start to taper off the Celexa after you are stable at 100mg Serzone. Raise the Serzone as you drop the Celexa. Or...
2. Wash out the Celexa completely for a week or two before starting the Serzone. Or...
3. Stop the Celexa with just a one day wash out and then start the Serzone.I've heard it done each of these ways. I think they're all safe, but I also think you have to expect some "weirdness" during the transition. You won't be able to tell if what you are feeling is withdrawals from Celexa, early transitional side effects from Serzone, adverse reaction to Serzone, or some combination of all of these.
Personally, in your shoes, I would do the overlap method similar to #1 above. I kind of like to dip my toes in the water before jumping in. JohnL
