In reply to need suggestion for occasional anxiety, posted by CarolAnn on January 6, 2000, at 9:09:58
> Begging your help once again! I will be seeing my Pdoc on tuesday and though I'm not where I think I should be depression-wise, I want to let that ride for a bit now that the whirlwind of my holiday season is over.
> What I do want to talk to him about is my occasional bouts of anxiety/almost panic. It really only happens when I have too much crap(for want of a better term) to deal with, whether presently or coming up in the near(or far) future. My previous Pdoc had given me, at different times, both Xanax and Klonopin. The only real result of these was extreme sleepiness, which really only added to my anxiety, as they wore off, because my major problem in life is not having enough energy to deal with all the crap that is causing the anxiety. My question is:
> Does anyone know of a medicine which does not have to be taken constantly(like antidepressants), but can be taken "as needed" for occasions when I have those panicky feelings, which also does *not* have a sedating effect?Thank you!CarolAnn
Well, benzos are my fave rave--I'd live on them if it was medically okay (I'd smoke cigarettes, too!). I did take a very low dose of Klonipin after a larger dose proved too sedating. I take when I need it half of a .5 pill. And--I also found that nicking of the end of that half often works. I think a little klonipin goes a long way. Also I take inderal now--it's a blood pressure drug. I was put on it for an unrelated (to my psyche!) heriditary hand tremor, and I do find it calming. I know people take it as needed, though I take regularly. I take 120/day--a low dose, but it can casue depression--I am okay? so far..
