In reply to Derealization/Depersonalization CRAIG WHERE ARE U?, posted by Rene' on November 8, 1999, at 16:51:00
Hi Rene' - it's been quite awhile since our last posts, but I'm OK. How have things been going with you? Has anything helped to take your mind off these "weird" feelings? What works best for me is distraction. I think it makes it worse if you focus on the depersonalization and derealization. I know it's hard to ignore, but if you keep trying to analyze it you'll probably just freak yourself out even more. I understand your wanting to find others who have these feelings. I suspect more people experience this than is reported, so maybe it would help to find strength in numbers. At least we'd feel there was somebody else who knows how we feel. I think it's hard to explain to someone who has never felt this way. Has your doctor had any helpful suggestions about coping with it? What have you tried and what helped at all? Doctors don't seem to think this is anything serious, which is exasperating. I mean, it bothers you or you wouldn't keep trying to make it stop. Them telling me it's just a symptom of something or other doesn't make me feel any better. I guess we're just left to deal with it on our own as best we can. If misery loves company, I'm here with you. Maybe just knowing you're not alone helps in some small way. Take care.
