sexual problems: any comments from physicians?

Posted by Elizabeth on July 13, 1999, at 17:31:38

A number of pharmacological interventions have been used with success for antidepressant-associated sexual dysfunction. I'm having difficulty sorting out which drug is effective for which type of dysfunction. There are three that I can think of:

1) difficulty getting aroused (erectile dysfunction, or whatever you'd call the equivalent in women)
2) able to become aroused, unable to have orgasms
3) loss of libido; loss of interest in sex

Which medications and/or "herbal food supplements" work for which problem(s), exactly? For example, Viagra is labelled for (1); would it work for (2) as well? Does *anything* work for (3)?

(To Judy, who expressed envy that I don't seem to get this side effect: I may not get it myself, but I still sometimes have to deal with it, if you know what I mean. That's right: it's the "boyfriend on Prozac" problem!)
