Hi there Nikki. Ultram seems like a sound treatment for depression, but don't use it in combination with standard antidepressants as there is a potential for interactions.
You'd start the Ultram at50mg 4 times a day. It may take a few weeks to kick in, but earlier response is possible too. It's not really known what the effective dose would be, but don't go above 400mg/day.
My experience was that it had no side effects. It is much more tolerable than drugs like codeine, morphine, etc. The main serious side effect is seizures, so don't use it in combination with other proconvulsant drugs or if you have a history of seizure disorder. Otherwise, the side effects are similar to those of other opioids, but they are milder.
