> A lot of anti-depressants cause constipation: Remeron, Tricyclics, MAOIs, and apparently Celexa. What most people don't seem to know is that there are a variety of nutrional supplements you can take that will clear up this problem. What works the best for me are high doses of Vitamin C (2000mg) and some Magnesium. In addition to clearing up the constipation, they are also great for your health. There are also meaning herbs, e.g., cascara sagrada, senna, goldenseal as well as fiber supplements like psyllium husk. These things work pretty well too, but I prefer the vitamin C and magnesium because they also help to reduce muscle tension and nervousness. I think over the counter laxatives are a bad idea--you become dependent on them and they aren't good for your body. Vitamin C and magnesium are.
Thanks for your posting. I've been trying to increase my fiber intake (eating more fruits and vegies). And while I'm sure this is a good idea anyway, I've been concerned because the problem doesn't get better without an almost pure vegan diet. I'm going to try your suggestion. How much magnesium are you taking? And I assume you are spreading out your vitamin C dose thru out the day. Right? Thanks again.
