The following comes from the publication of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill for Jan 1999.
Research Studies:
1. McLean Hospital in MA will be conducting tests with a patch-delivered MAOI. For 9 weeks half will wear placebo and half real med. After that ALL will use the real patch and be followed for several months. To be elibible must be clinically depressed, 18-65, in overall good health. Call 617-855-2904.
2. Biological Psychiatry Branch of the National Institutes of Mental Health is doing a number of research projects:
--Transcranial magnetic stimulation of the brain is being studied as a possible antidepressant modality in both inpatient and out patient trials.
--Medication study evaluating antidepressant effects of Lamictal (lamotrigine
--Medication study evaluating Neurontin (gabapentin)
--Study evaluating whether TRH (thyroid releasing hormone) or T3 (thyroid hormone) can accelerate the antidepressant effects of Effexor (venlafaxine).
Candidates for these should be 18-65 and medically healthy. Eval and Treatment are free.
