I hope all can get to a qualified acupuncturist, and start getting out of the psychopharmacotic rat-race. I came here to research what's new. I've been on valium for 25 years. Yes, folks, that's the way these drugs work!

I don't know what your original diagnosis was, or who prescribed the Valium, however I am happy to see you are looking for a different option. Valium was used extensively in the 60's and 70's to treat a variety of symptoms, an I believed it was prescribed far more often for women than for men. There are a variety of new medications available which work well to treat the physical problems that are the cause of depression. For me, a medication that works well allows me to function without the lead weights around my ankles. The medication allows me to be ME, and is not behaving as an "upper" or a "downer". I'm happy, well-employed, and in a variety of relationships with people that would not be possible if I could not manage the underlying causes of my depression.
There are many people here who are current on the latest treatments. I'm not as current as I was back when we were trying to find the best medication or combination to manage my depression. People here are interested, they're kind, and they care.
I hope you are able to find help here, and find some comfort. Good Luck
