Effexor withdrawal nightmares

Posted by CaffeinePoet on August 4, 2009, at 12:40:28

Hey guys,

I'm coming off 100 mgs of Effexor (50 mgs x 2). This week, I've tapered from 100 mgs to 75 mgs, and am about to go down to 50 mgs.

I've had vivid dreams for several days while tapering, and last night had a vivid nightmare. It wasn't bloody or violent, just psychologically jarring.

After I awoke I pondered about why I'm having these dreams and realized they are probably related to discontinuation.

Does taking benadryl or anything help to avoid these nightmares?

Hi Caffeine Poet,

I don't frequent this board, hence the late response. And, I have no advice, except do you have a temporary sleep aid to take to either reduce dreaming or let you sleep deeper? Benadryl type things don't work for me. Well, it's been about ten days since your post. May I ask how you are doing? Effexor was the worst for me!

hi. i've had some nightmares of my own back when i was still in withdrawal. but, i have lot of support from my family and friends. also i was made aware of a supplement called amphetarestore and decided to take it during the withdrawal process (nothing to lose so I took it). it helped a lot decreasing the symptoms and detoxifying my body. now, i'm still taking it along with my other meds, it helps by lowering dependency to the drugs, so my body tends to react to the medications effectively. hope this gives you some insight.
