Effexor: benifits vs. nausia + withdrawals

Posted by Budzoid on March 15, 2009, at 22:16:54

Hello everyone; I'm new to this board and could use some advise.
A few years ago I spent over a year tapering off Xanax (5mg. a day for 6-7 yrs). The withdrawals were minimul since I went very slowly.
My doc. now wants me to start Effexor XR (37.5mgs a day for 1 week and then double it every week until I reach 150mgs a day).
After reading a lot of posts in this and the medication board, I am very hesitant to start. I don't need the nausia (I get en enough of that from my opiates). I really don't want to start something that is so hard to stop using.
It sounds as if the withdrawals from Effexor may be even worse than the Xanax.
My question to everyone who has taken Effexor and gone through the withdrawals is this: Are the benifits worth the side effects. If you knew then what you know now, would you have ever started?
I will use the responses to help decide if I should start taking it.
Thank you in advance.

This is the end of the thread.
