What's the easiest to come off benzo or SSRI?

Posted by Deniseuk190466 on December 15, 2007, at 3:35:08

Just wondering yet again. I wish I had some other, more normal thoughts going on in my head :-)

Like hmmmmm what shall I have for my dinner tonight, where shall I go on holiday next year :-)

For me benzo's were easier, but some people have the opposite reaction.

Depends on the dose and the length of time and which SSRI. If its an SSRI with a long half life and certain plasma characteristics there's less chance of withdrawal. Paxil is not an example of this, losing a day of it can be uncomfortable for some people. Regardless there will be some transient anxiety period or melancholic depending on what one is using it for.

Benzodiazepines long term and higher dose are quite hard to get off of, as I can attest.

Although supposedly done in a doctors office and a hospital if necessary it can be done in shorter shrift, its not terribly humane. Some say heroin is easier to get off of -- but there's a degree of psychological issues with needles and yucky things I won't go into, so I can't qualify that.

Neighbors daughter was addicted to pain pills they put her on methadone and she perfectly fine now. Don't know why someone that stole her mother's pills, lost her kids should have such a easy time. While the ones who were prescribed meds have such a terrible time coming off them. Phillipa
