this is my third time trying to come off of zyprexa the doctor is doing it over 6 weeks every two weeks i drop the dose then he wants me to just stop it do you think i should wein off of it even slower im 6 days into the weining and feel alright was on the zyprexa for 5 months for bad anxiety. Im also taking paxil and klonopin just want to get off this med with out a relapes , I was only on 5mgs of the zyprexa. Was put on it for just until the other meds were working well also ive read some bad things about how when some people come off this med people get bad side effects is this true or should i be alright.

Suebirds hi so glad the zoloft and paxil are helping you. The zyprexa follow the scedule of your pdoc and see how you do it can always be revised. And then stay on the antidepressants as they are just now working without the anxiety right? Or did I misread? Phillipa

im no longer on the zoloft as it did not work well for me stay on it for 5 months doctor decided to put me back on the paxil I was on before and I do think its working for me ive been on it almost 6 weeks again yes I am following the way the p-doc a told me to go off the zyprexa but I think I read to much on the internet then I get afraid im going to get the same side effects I need to keep telling myself i can do this. Have you ever talk with someone that has went off this med. Thank You Suebird

Suebird no I haven't been on it. You know the list of boards? There is one titled withdrawal. Click on it and you will be there think you went to it coming off zoloft. Phillipa

I've been taking zyprexa almost 10 years now. I don't get side-effects from coming off it. I get all the problems I had before taking it coming back. Like lack of sleep, psycosis, no appatite.
The best way to do it would be little bit by little bit. Maybe if you were switching to anouther med, withdraw would not be as bad. Unless you don't need a med.

quit zyprexa after about four years of taking 2.5mg. Just stopped taking it because I was tired of the weight gain and did not experience any side effects other than a few nights of difficulty sleeping. Go for it and do not be afraid; remember, you can always go back on it.

Hi Suebirds,
you can come off of it - I have gotten my dose down from 10mg to 2.5mg and am stable on the lower dose. I answered another one of your posts which gives a fuller story for you. It can be done, though as I said in that other post, you will find it helpful to strengthen other areas of your life, and seek other things to help you in this process - I include exercise, meditation, yoga, breathing, diet and health supplements as ways of supporting my process in coming off of zyprexa, and I have done it very slowly (been on these drugs for 18 years) having taken 5 to 6 years to be stable on a low dose. As encouragement, I do suffer pain and other withdraw symptoms, but continue on in the battle to be free of these drugs in the light of knowledge that what I am suffering is withdrawal symptoms - I "get" this knowledge (and support) from websites like this one. Oh and I also stay determined! I do go through periods where I seem to slip backwards, and in my (and no doubt many other's) experience I know not to give up when I seem to be losing ground, as all ground gained will pay off, even if at times it is one hard-fought step forward and two steps back.
