Luvox withdrawal or Zoloft side effects?

Posted by vitalsign0 on October 24, 2007, at 19:49:02

Ok, I've been on 50mgs of Luvox for 10 years along with .5mgs of Xanax every night. My OCD is pretty bad and Luvox didn't seem to be helping so my doctor switched me to Zoloft, starting at 25mgs. I've been on it for 4 days and I feel like crap. I feel like I want to jump out on skin, my balance is off, I feel hot like I'm running a fever, my ears are ringing, my sinuses got irritated (wtf?). I'm not sick. It's either the withdrawal from Luvox or Zoloft side effects.

WTF should I do here? I would prefer OCD hell than deal with this SSRI bullcrap. Should I get back on Luvox to level out and then taper off?

If anyone can offer some suggestions I'd appreciate it. If there is a recommended Luvox taper schedule, please provide it.

I'm so sick of this.

Hi,

I am not a medical professional so keep that in mind as you read my post. I am a veteran of psych med tapering who has done alot of research on the subject.

Yes, I would to back on the Luvox and stabalize on the lowest possible dose. The good news I just read on rxlist.com is that you can get the generic Luvox in liquid form. But you have to ask your doctor for a liquid prescription as most of them don't know abut this.

Ask your pharmacist or doctor for the correct liquid amounts for 5 mg, 10mg etc. It might not be a straight conversion so you have to check.

You will then need a ml syringe to measure the right amount.

Personally, I would start with 5mg and stay there for a few weeks. If you don't feel stable then add 5mg and keep repeating the process until you feel stable.

I would then reduce 10% of the current dose every 3 to 4 weeks.
So if you reduce for example from 20mg, you would go down to 18mg and then 10% of 18. It might not always be an exact match but you get the idea.

If you want to send me a babble email and give me your email address, I can send you a spreadsheet I got from the paxil progress boards. Or you can go there yourself:

http://www.paxilprogress.org. You will have to register to download it.

As an aside, most doctors are not familiar with tapering a med slowly. If they give you a hard time, simply say this is what you want to do and ask if it is medically safe. Of course, they will say yes and realize they have no argument. I am not saying all doctors are like this but just wanted to forewarn you.
