Hey Guys,
I've been on 25mg Lamictal for 8 months and have been on 12.5mg for a few days (trying to wean off) and feel increased anxiety, eye pain (dry eyes), muscle pain and stiffness, agitation, etc. Are these fleeting effects from withdrawel?
I'm getting off because the drug never did much and it causes anger....
Please let me know!!!

I'm sorry I can't speak to the withdrawal effects, but I am curious...do you think the lamictal has caused anger ongoing, or did you notice it when you started it?
I swear it made me agitated at first and I am curious about other people's experiences

Some people with BP report Lamictal can kick them into hypomania each time they raise the dose yet eventually Lamictal acts as an antimanic agent. Mania often presents as anger or irritability.

Why did you stop titrating up at 25 mgs? Most people suggest that anti-depressant doses start at 50 mgs. I too take 25 mgs but I am having a very positive experience and am more or less using it to withdraw from Prozac after 4-5 years on that - or at the least, live my life on a different substance. It's been successful in that regard too.

It sounds like it. If I take 12.5mgs, I notice the same things. I have noticed that the 25 mg tabs can be split into 4 pieces with a pill-cutter. It's not a scientific split, but it does the job. Perhaps you could go down to 18.75 mgs first for a while?

I can't help but wonder if it may have had therapeutic effects at higher doses.

Yea....Lamictal caused me anger and agitation for me....I have never been an angry person and everything pissed me off on it....
I was on Xanax for awhile while on Lamictal so this canceled the anger effect. When I weaned off Xanax, there was nothing to calm me down....
Gosh...my muscles hurt so bad and im so anxious now :) i hope this goes away!!!! meds always cause weird side effects for me so im trying to go without them....well see how long that lasts!!!

CK1 hi. I tried lamictal last summer and at 50mg had intolerable salivation so went off. But no anger or increased anxiety. Hope you are doing well other wise. Love Phillipa

I tapered quickly off Lamictal in January after being on it for over a year. I was at 400mg, and it didn't stabilize nuthin! (Meaning I had a bad hypomanic episode in December and discontinued its use by my dr's ok. It just didn't work as well as it should have.)
I think it's all washed out of my system by now, but I swear it's only been in the last few weeks that I've felt better. In the weighing of benefits and problems, Lamictal ultimately came up short for me.

you are having placebo effects. lamictal is great for depression and hypomania/ also you should take lamictal if you are on certain anti dep.
since some can kick in hypomania. lamictal 300mg is the dose
