My doctor prescriped this to me today to withdraw from Ativan. I read on the internet it's for alcohol withdrawal. Does this mean he thinks I am alcohol dependant or an alcoholic? I told him that I drank socially and a bit more when I was upset. Thanks, Green

Hi greenline,

[I'm going to cross-post this here because the topic is actually more germame to withdrawal than substance abuse.]
Green,
My pdoc prescribed me Campral as well. This is for both benzo withdrawal and as a potential mood stabilizer (I'm bipolar II and allergic to most of the usual mood stabilizers). So you're not alone, although my situation is a little more complicated.
I've just started it (2 x 333mg) my only complaint is some tiredness and maybe a little push downward in mood. Too early to tell as far as mood stabilization.
Anyway, there's some pharmacological basis to thinking that it might be good for withdrawal/tapering of benzos. I'm going to try to cut my Klonopin a bit and see if it helps, but again it'll take a while to know whether the Campral helps.
Have you started the Campral? If so, have you been able to reduce your Ativan without major issues?
Let me know,
