Does anyone have experience withdrawing from abilify? Also has weight gain been an issue for you while taking it if you are only taking abilify?

Abilify - that's one of them atypical anti-psychotics isn't it? How long have you been on it? And at what dose? I have no experience of Abilify but I have experience of one atypical anti-psychotic - 5 mg Zyprexa which is very hard to come off - terrible rebound insomnia. I was down to zero for three weeks and the rebound insomnia wouldn't let me go. Result? I had to go back on the Zyprexa at 10 mg.

> Yes, it's in the same "class" as zyprexa (which I also took but had to stop because of weight gain). I've been taking abilify for about two years at a dose between 5 and 15 mg as needed. I'm down to 5 now. I haven't had any real problem with abilify, but want to get off the whole "cocktail" if I can--Wellbutrin, Effexor, Concerta, Ambian and Abilify. Zyprexa was really good for me but I couldn't tolerate the weight gain, 20 pounds in six months. Since then I've gained another 30 on Effexor, but I hope I'll be successful dropping it once I can drop Effexor to zero. I'm down to 75/37.5 on alternating days (from 225 daily) and will stay on that for about a month before going down to 37.5 per day. I started back at the gym in October so hopefully when I do go to zero I should be ready to really drop the weight. Thanks for responding. Would your doctor let you try some sleep medication for the insomnia rebound from quitting zyprexa? Sandra

My doctor prescribed Seroquel for sleep and also Zopiclone but neither would work. I was on 5 mg Zyprexa for 4 years. Apparently only a drug that is chemically similar to Zyprexa will work in Zyprexa withdrawal. :-(

I have not had much problem coming off abilify. I've been taking it for 3 weeks this time while coming off the zyprexa, and had no apatite at all. Don't think wieght gain is an issue.

I'm on temazipine or pam. It seems to help a great deal and I'm not drowsy in the morning.

I take abilify and eat nothing, loss weight. Withdraws from abilify after one day are lack of motivation, tiredness.

Yeah, I guess that is a side effect I'm having, didn't think about that one. Just thought I was getting a bit lazy...lol
