Effexor Withdrawl Symptoms

Posted by dreamchild on July 2, 2006, at 2:55:05

I have read all the posts. I am starting to have all the withdrawl sympltoms but I have not decreased my dosage. I am on 375mg daily.
If I even miss one days dose, I am paralyzed by
brain shocks, irregualr heartbeats, dizzyness,
wierd moments when I lose my visual focas completely, vivid nightmeres, etc.
Even when I don't miss a dose I can have these symptoms randomly. I have been on Effexor XR for one year now. Please help with any advise you may have for me. I feel like I have no control over my body and mind any more.
Melanie

Hear that knock on the door? I think it is the Redirection Police sending this post to "Withdrawal". :>} You'll like it there: there are LOTS of people having trouble with withdrawal symptoms with Effexor. Best of luck-taking a drug that causes side effects that will be made worse by decreasing the dose is a nightmare!

I felt like you do when they moved me up to 150mgs of Effexor XR for a few months. It was around the middle of March that I noticed those horrible "brain zaps". I couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. I had blurred vision, couldn't sleep good, terrible anxiety, nightmares, debilitating headaches that felt like my cerebelum was in a vice, my joints hurt, my muscles felt like they needed to be stretched, and my moods were off the wall. This was while I was on the medication. EEk! I was originally put on it for my night sweats and anxiety. (If I had known what my body was going to go through, I would have just suffered with the night sweats, which I am doing now.) I knew something wasn't right with my body, that, something needed to be done. I weaned off of it, and the side affects were just as bad for me as the withdrawls, except for the flu-like symptoms. I am still not 100% quite yet. It's been over 3 mths. They talk a lot about a half life with this medication. I took that to mean that our bodies start to not need it anymore, or, the dosage is too high. The 150mgs was just too much for me. I felt better when I went back down to the 75mgs, then a week later down to the 37.5mgs. I also have mitral valve prolapse too. So, my symptoms seemed amplified. I feel for you and pray you can get this adjusted and feel better.
