Hey, everyone! I am new here and am very interested to hear what you may have to say....
I have been taking Lamictal (200 mg/day) for two years now for Bipolar Disorder. I don't believe I am truly Bipolar (which is another post entirely!) so my Dr. has agreed to let me come off the med and see what happens. I have a history of substance abuse which I think is the cause of ALL my mental problems. What I'm trying to say is that I want to know who I am with NO medications in my body. I've been clean for 4 months now and I'm feeling good physically and mentally. So, my question is.....has anyone out there gone through anything similar? Do you think it's a good idea to try coming off the Lamictal? What side effects should I expect? Ohhhhh.....so many questions! Someone, please help!!
Can't wait to hear from you!

I can't comment on whether or not you will ultimately need medication or have bipolar disorder, but I can recommend that you do taper the Lamictal fairly gradually. If discontinued too rapidly, it can cause a rebound depression - something that even a mentally healthy person might experience. I can't offer a precisely optimized taper schedule for you personally, but if you can afford the time, you might want to think about reducing the dosage by 25mg every week. Based upon my own experiences with Lamictal, this seems reasonable.

Hey everyone...
Just wanted to say thank you for the responses. I don't spend much time on the computer, but I've really enjoyed browsing this site.
Thanks again,
Wendy
